A vibrant installation represents complexity and diversity

Installation - 6 Months
UTA CAPPA Building
Arlington, Texas

“Becoming” uses a representative of designers, Zaha Hadid, to show the process of abstract thoughts becoming something tangible. The box itself is the representation of a designer’s mind: the outside is ordinary, but once you step inside it reveals to be colorful and complex.

Zaha was chosen as the person to represent architects and designers because she reached into both fields of architecture and interior design, and she represents diversity.

The building pictured in the collage of images is Zaha’s design for the Guangzhou Opera House in China. It was chosen for the installation because of its contrast of exterior and interior forms: sharp angles on the outside, and flowing curves on the inside. The open triangular ceiling structure in the installation references the structure of the Guangzhou Opera House.
